The Leadership Institute (Nigeria) hereby calls on well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations, development partners, philanthropists, and friends of education—within Nigeria and across the global community—to support the Appeal Fund for the Educational Rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Children in Benue State.
Across numerous communities in Benue State, prolonged banditry and violent attacks have devastated schools, teachers’ residences, and essential educational infrastructure. Entire villages have been uprooted, leaving thousands of children without access to stable and quality education. While humanitarian interventions have largely focused on food, shelter, and basic relief, education remains critically under-supported. Many displaced children are now confined to makeshift learning spaces without desks, textbooks, uniforms, or adequate learning materials, while teachers operate under extremely challenging conditions.
The Appeal Fund seeks to close this critical gap through targeted and compassionate interventions. These include the provision of essential learning materials; support and capacity-building for teachers; the establishment of community learning centres, libraries, and ICT hubs; and the deployment of Schools on Wheels—fully equipped mobile classrooms that will deliver structured education to IDP camps and hard-to-reach communities. Through these initiatives, the Fund aims to restore educational continuity, dignity, safety, and hope to thousands of displaced and vulnerable children.
Education remains the most powerful tool for breaking cycles of insecurity, trauma, and poverty. For children displaced by violence, learning offers stability, psychosocial healing, and protection from exploitation, child labour, and early marriage. Rebuilding education in Benue State is not only about infrastructure—it is about rebuilding futures. This Appeal Fund is therefore a call to our shared humanity: no child should have their future stolen by conflict.
